Bryza | Breeza

This video shows the development process of Breeza Task Chair from scratch until manufactured.

Bryza | Breeza
Status: available on market. Price started at IDR 2,890,000.- (USD 301). Contact sales@indovickers.com for inquiry.
Breeza is a new line of task chair designed to suit various office environment. Its unique organic - shaped back curvature is designed for optimum back support. The advanced mechanisms of the chair gives synchronous movements between seat and back, ensuring comfort as well as accommodate various users size. It is valued for money if looks at its appearance and functionality.
Breeza accommodates user’s dynamic movement. It offers swivel movements, height adjustments, three dimensional arm movements, as well as adjustable seat position. Headrest option also available to give better support on neck.
The self-tensioned mesh is a smart material giving an adequate support on user’s lumbar. Now, user doesn’t have to adjust the lumbar support manually, thanks to this smart solution.
The wide finish options also give designers, project managers, and end users a great chance to explore their creativity and giving specific brand image in the product.
Breeza is developed in an extensive process. Start from scratch, and created with cutting edge CAD software. It is also tested with Finite Element Analysis method before went into production.

1. Optional headrest.
Fixed headrest can be added separately, either considered as ergonomic or strata reasons. It is made by framed Polyurethane skins and only comes in black.
2. Self-tensioned mesh.
The mesh is an advanced material built from PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) with Polyethylene core. It is woven into fabric, and has unique aesthetic characteristics. Don’t forget it has a broad range of options, either in colors and patterns. Starts from ordinary “see through mesh”, metallic mesh, fantasy line mesh, up to rattan mesh.
It also has a very strong tensile strength, which makes it useful to get a “smart self-tension” for supporting both lumbar and spinal.
The main advantage is definitely the mesh installation itself. It can be replaced easily whenever it is teared up or for some reasons users would like to change the type and color. It is also easy to maintain, since it only needs small amounts of light soap and brush applied on surface.
The mesh is fire-retardants and Green Guards approved.
3. Organic curved backrest.
Made from engineered plastics, consist of Polyamide with extra reinforced glass fiber. It comes in black, and engineered carefully to have a great strength to hold body weight.
Advanced CAD technology is used to create this unique shape backrest.
4. Strong structure.
Strong metal bracket is concealed in the frame. It connects the backrest frame with the mechanism, which is the heart of a task chair. Made from powder coated strong SPHAC steel.
5. Ergonomic armrest.
Arms are moveable three dimensionally. Height adjustments is done through lifting small knobs on side of the arm.
The arm pads are designed specifically for ergonomic use, and can be used as temporary plate for small gadgets. With flat surfaces, either elbows or gadgets are supported effectively.
6. Seat depth adjustment.
Seat travels 60 mm frontward to accommodate users with extra height. With this adjustment, thigh can be better supported.
7. Advanced mechanism.
Breeza offers three types of mechanism: fixed seat with knob tension, fixed seat with automatic tension and tilt limiter, and adjustable seat with lateral tension adjustment. All mechanisms confirm to BIFMA standards as well as ISO 21015:2007. It supports maximum usage for user weights at 150 kilograms and 24 hours of usage.
Its synchronous movement between seat and back ensures ergonomic movement for long hours of use.
The adjustment of the tension can be done in two alternatives: regular knob tension and advanced lateral tension. Whilst, the auto tension type does not require any adjustments since the strength of the tension will follow user’s weight automatically.
Backrest reclines and lockable in five different positions. Seat can be adjusted 60 mm frontward and lockable in five positions as well.
8. Height adjustments and swivels.
The chair can be adjusted 90 mm upwards, and can stop anywhere between. It swivels freely, 360°.
9. Aluminum and plastic foot base.
The foot base has two different options: aluminum, for shiny looks and plastic for ordinary one.
The design process of this project is a long, tiring, and dragging. It took almost two years to accomplish it from scratch.

Chair Lab

Chair lab series were designed in 2010. These series were experimental design for contest and modeling practice:

  1. Zyx: experimental office chair, low back and intuitive. Entry for Rhino Area Forum design challenge ;
  2. Betawi: remodeled from traditional Betawi wooden chair. This chair offered a classic concept in a modern-contemporary look ;
  3. Betawi Table: pair for Betawi chair. It has two colors, each for top and leg ;
  4. Tourteau: experimental chair, made from plastic injection (the idea was inspired by crab) ;
  5. BoGG: stupid outdoor sofa, with unique weaving and comfy thick cushion ;
  6. Moll: multi-purpose chair for McDonalds. This chair was proposed for McDonalds franchise restaurant in Indonesia. It has a flawless metal frame, combined with plastic shell for seat ;
  7. Vero: Boss’ idea. It was designed as a multi-purpose chair with plastic shell as seat and back, with structural frame made from metal pipe. The model was done in a day, and rendered with cartoon material in V-Ray for Rhino ;
  8. Xeon: early T-Splines model. It was my first attempt to study T-Splines. It solved three connected pipe (which most probably will give us headache if it is done only in Rhino), in x, y, and z direction smoothly. The concept was very simple, as it uses mesh for seat and back support.
Ayre
Ayre chair combines two most common materials in furniture today, plastic and wood.
Shell is made from injected Polypropylene, and legs are made from lathed ash wood. Shell could also be replaced with artificial rattan.

Diavolo: The Devil’s Chair
“Experimental approach with organic software for industrial design”
Judges Quote:
“This was an example of design taking advantage of the capabilities of T-Splines without the designer succumbing of letting TS dictate the design. A good, humorous, and completely plausible design.”
In summer 2010, T-Splines held a contest for their users with theme “Model Your Organic Design in CAD.” I had two entries for the competition. First is the Diavolo Chair, and second is Meriva Office Chair.
T-Splines held this contest to gather the community, and to see how advance the software really is.
Started with a very rough idea to design a unique chair. I sketched Diavolo Chair on a piece of paper, and strictly model them in Rhino. From the first time, I know that it is almost an impossible job to finish this design entirely with Rhino.
Of course, Rhino has a lot of surfacing commands like loft, patch, sweep 1 and 2, and blend, but this surface is so complicated, and it could take weeks to complete. And with some rhino disadvantages of surface joining, I could trap into many naked edges, so the models would not be watertight to be printed in 3D.
So, I simply pick T-Splines to make the basic surface, and mix it with Rhino for some geometric shape (of the legs and glides).
Back to the idea of the chair, devil is a representation of an “evil, bad, or anything coincide with darkness, fear, cruelty, and a lot of other nasty things. And horns are just a great semantic that precisely represent a visual meanings of a devil.
The idea is to design something that quite aesthetic, hence represent some critics in other side.  This design said that we have something bad lies within our self. So, we deserve to sit in this “devil chair”, regardless what job we have. Politicians, lawyers, designers, architects, we are a devil in some way.
Representing fun image in this design, bright and fancy colors are chosen. Basically there colors will be divided based on components. The horn, evil laugh, glide, and tensile fabric should have the same color. Combined with a single main frame color. Joining parts consist of one typed customized bolt.
Materials for the body would be Injected Polypropylene with tubular pipe to connect the seat and back. On the seat, attached high tensile stretch fabric,batyline® to hold the bodyweight.  Legs made of chromed SPCC metal, solid pipe with 12 mm diameter.
Diavolo® Chair comes in two varies: the quad base legs (with self height adjustment), and the standard legs (look for the glides).
The chair can be functioned as a multipurpose one. Whether in a conference room, café, office, dining, or other space.  Horns can be used to hang jackets, or purse.
Several weeks after the judging, ZCorp decide to print one of the chair.
